BPGE #8 – Flashback

Flashback is a cinematic platformer developed by Delphine Software. Not only was this game well received, it also holds the title of the best-selling French game of all time. Being a cinematic platformer Flashback has heavily invested in both graphics and story. The animations are very smooth and there are several neat cutscenes scattered throughout the game. The gameplay it’s self is quite similar to Prince of Persia in almost every way. Your movement is controlled by the arrow keys, the space bar is used draw/holster your gun and shift handles everything else. Like many other platformers at the time, playing it is mostly feels like trial and error as it is quite unforgiving. Despite that, I still found it quite interesting. If this game interests you, read on for some installation instructions.

  • In our video I played the original release using Dosbox. The following guide covers the basic Dosbox setup and installation – http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_Installation_of_DosBox
  • To play the game you will need to find a copy on you favourite abandonware websites. We used the following – http://www.abandonia.com/
